My thoughts on Skillshare, the affordable self-growth learning platform

I've been loosely following the learning platforms on the web over the years. Udemy is like a cheap, lower quality online course library. It beats YouTube in some ways since a structured course beats random videos. But their cheap price is a double-edged sword since it's so cheap that there's a lot of low quality on there, but also good since it's better than the obnoxious $1,000 to $3,000+ courses people sell and that I've purchased.

There's also Lynda, which has kind of gone defunct and turned into LinkedIn Learning. There's a couple others, like MasterClass, but the big one I've seen growing and doing very well is Skillshare. I wasn't expecting a platform to do better but this one has higher quality courses than Skillshare on many topics of interest.

And the price actually isn't bad at all. It's about $13 a month if you buy for a year, which is comparable to Netflix. While $1,000+ courses are often the highest quality, you'd be surprised to know how the quality varies at that price point. And personally, my wallet is sick of super expensive courses and is ready to try some Skillshare because sometimes, the level of quality and consistency of courses is sometimes higher on Skillshare anyways.

I recommend searching up Ali Abdaal's courses on productivity and getting Straight A's because you get to see the way of thinking of someone who was the top of his Cambridge class and how he manages to run a business and work in med school. If you're not familiar Ali Abdaal is a YouTuber with millions of subscribers. He's a Cambridge medicine graduate now working as an FY2 Junior Doctor. His Skillshare courses have tens of thousands of students.

I've been traveling the USA for over a year now. 4 months in 2021, and this whole year. Here are my quick reflections. Worth it? Yes Anxiety provoking at times? Yes. Being alone in a unknown, potentially dangerous, new area is tough. I'm working on strategies to deal with that like socializing, getting out into nature, and doing research of an area before hand. Were there some cities / areas where I seemed to not get anxiety? Yes, when I was passing through quickly, looking forward to...
